Strategic Illustration

About Strategic Illustrations

Strategic illustrations are intentional visual communication tools designed in the studio.  An illustrator works closely with a client/client team to create a structured and meaningful illustration for important organizational communication.  Strategic Illustrations are perfect for:

  • Mission-Vision-Values

  • Business Strategy

  • Process Diagrams

  • Learning Maps

  • Team Charters

  • Visual Templates

  • Journey Roadmaps…or any intentional visual communication tool.

A strategic illustration is often a “book cover” to introduce participants to a big initiative. They are co-created with a client describing the content and the strategic illustrator turning the information into a learning visual or infographic.

“I am so pleased with the Recreation Vision Map Kriss created for us. She was able to capture everyone’s ideas and implement them quickly, clearly, and concisely. We now have a tool we can use as a division thanks to Kriss’ ability to take a large amount of input and turn it into a masterful, visual representation or our shared mission, vision, and values.”

The Process

Clients describe their visual communication ideas with our team.  We create a scope of work with an estimate of hours.  We agree on a budget, number of sketches and project timeline.  If an NDA is necessary, we sign and keep confidential the client’s intellectual property.

Next the client shares information to support the visual (supporting documents, images, logos, branding colors).  The client and illustrator meet (usually virtually) and discuss the content for the illustration.  Questions we ask: What are the big messages/key takeaways? Where is there overlap/connections/relationships? What is the information hierarchy? Are there any cultural guidelines we should be aware of and follow? What organizational stories/metaphors are important? What is the title for this strategic illustration?

The illustrator creates a digital sketch(es) and shares with client.  We meet again virtually to gather feedback and reactions.  Afterwards the illustrator creates a closer-to-final rendering and sends it to the client.  The client shares and discusses the artwork with their teams to determine final changes. We meet again to fine tune the illustration.

The final digital strategic illustration is sent to the client and becomes their property.
